Emil Guillermo: Before Jamie Foxx butchered the National Anthem, he criticized Manny Pacquiao’s singing voice by mocking Pacman’s Filipino accent. Yes, it was a racial slur.

Maybe Jamie Foxx is better at lip-synching?

His version of the national anthem during the Pacquiao Mayweather fight was the only thing in the building worse than the fight itself.

(Although, the Burger King guy walking in with Mayweather was pretty bad. I would have asked freckle-powered Wendy).

Here’s Foxx on the anthem.

That was as bad a rendition of F.S. Key as I’ve heard. And I liked the Jose Feliciano version. (If you remember that, you are demographically unnecessary).

But here’s Foxx butchering Pacquiao’s accent on ESPN’s “First Take.”

 

You don’t have to be Filipino to know that is called a a racial slur.

Filipinos care.

ESPN and Foxx can apologize for that.

The national anthem? That just proves the funny man is no Ray Charles.

Emil Guillermo: (VIDEO) Jamie Foxx will sing “Star Spangled Banner” at tonight’s PacMay fight; Will he mock Manny and do it in a Filipino accent? He did on ESPN’s First Take. Was it a racial slur?

Accent is a big deal.

It’s one thing for a Filipino to make fun of it.

But it’s quite another for Jamie Foxx to do it on national television. Take a look at this video of ESPN’s “First Take.”

Funny or racial slur?

No different than the non-written rules for the use of “N” word by non-blacks.

If you’re not Filipino, it’s a slur.

Given how politically correct ESPN has been on making fun of accents and racial remarks (remember the “chink in the armour” references regarding Jeremy Lin?),I don’t know how they could allow this on their air.

 

And there’s the super self-righteous Stephen A. Smith yucking it up.
He’s been suspended for insensitive remarks. Bill Simmons has too.

And yet on the day before the big fight, there’s this on ESPN?

That’s an outrage, folks.

Shows no respect for Pacquiao, the 90 million people of the Philippines, or the 3.4 million Filipinos in America.

Let’s see if ESPN at least takes producers to task for their judgment. And let’s see if Foxx continues to mock Manny and all Filipinos by continuing to do his shtick.

An apology is in order.

Emil Guillermo: Analiza Moitinho de Almeida declines comment, but gives a statement on Beverly Hills bakery suit on worker/trafficking abuse.

Analiza Moitinho de Almeida, an owner with her husband Goncalo, of the L’Amande  French Bakery in Beverly Hills, declined to comment, but did speak to me by phone Thursday when I called her this week.

See what she had to say about the lawsuit filed by 11 of her workers who allege worker abuse/fraud/trafficking  in a suit worth more than $1 million.

October is Filipino American History month, but then you know why I like to flip it and say "American Filipino." I don't mean to make you get new stationary and business cards, but I want to both honor those born-here. And those who are just here. It's an inclusive, unifying phrase. Because what unites are the transgressions we've all experienced. It's even more frustrating when some of our own people "don't get it," and think I'm picking a fight. I'm not. I'm trying to pick us up to go forward.
